I really like this article you have written and I couldn't agree with you more around it. My brother and I have had this same discussion a bunch of times and I really find how our societies view these things quite strange. As you rightly pointed out there are games that are very violent that have no problems with being released I mean take a game like manhunt for the ps2 could you imagine if that was released now with the graphics of the ps4 what that would be like, that game was brutal on so many levels and I know it was very contraversial at the time but it was still released and rightly so, the game was for adults it has a rating and that rating should be followed. However it almost seems as a society we are embarrassed by fan service of Japanese games. I do not buy the games I play because they have fan service I buy them because I really enjoy the type of games they are. Take monster monpiece I enjoyed that game because I enjoyed the tactical card game that it was, but I didn't get embarrassed bout how the cards powered up it was just the game. If you look at the general western reviews of many fan service jrpgs they can't get passed the fan service I remember watching a video review for omega quintet and the guy was so embarrassed by the clothes ripping, he then basically spoke about that and ran down the game without really saying much else about it once it happened! ( I'm just very grateful you guys are here to give these games the reviews they deserve) So until our society stops finding sex embarrassing we will always have this issue. When my brother and I had this discussion last time he said "I find it strange our country finds game with sex embarrassing you know the thing that ultimately gives life but anything where you kill each other thats amazing" I know some are quite extreme however we are adults and we should be able to make the choice if we want to play it and it's the the responsibility of parents to make sure children don't play these games I wouldn't let my step son watch or play certain games violent or otherwise!
