www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2018/01/25/films/reflecting-20-years-female-roles-ring/#.WmmmoJP1XJMThe Ring is a big reason I got into Japanese horror in the first place. Has a very different tone to western-style horror, and I've over the years come to realise that that different tone isn't exclusive to The Ring - most Japanese horror is very different in approach. What I never realised - and I don't really know why - but The Ring was actually originally a book. I've just downloaded the trilogy of novels for the first time to my Kindle... let's see how they hold up compared to the films. Apparently the author is incredibly well known in his homeland.
